eSchool Media Submission Guidelines

Submissions are accepted for consideration only if they have not been published or submitted for publication elsewhere. Stories usually range in length from 800 to 1,200 words, but they can be a bit shorter or longer depending on the author’s needs.

Articles should be objective and should focus on school technology challenges and solutions. Submissions from educators are preferred, but we do accept submissions from ed-tech executives provided they do not advocate a particular company or product.

Authors should submit a headshot and a 1- or 2-sentence biography for inclusion at the end of the story. Any other relevant photos or images are welcome as well, and these should accompany the submission.

Once a story is submitted for editorial review, the author(s) will be asked to sign a copyright release form, which grants eSchool News the exclusive publishing rights for 60 days. After that 60-day period, the author is free to submit the piece for publication elsewhere, although eSchool News retains the rights to keep or reprint the article in print and online in perpetuity.

Here are the most common types of submissions we consider:

Viewpoints are somewhat controversial opinion pieces intended to generate thought and discussion among other educators.

Frontlines share useful information from seasoned educators and ed-tech experts in the field. These are intended to help other educators facing similar challenges (e.g., “Five tips for installing a wireless network”).

Best Practices are success stories about individual schools, school districts, colleges, or universities. Written by educators or administrators, these describe the challenge a particular school or district faced, the solution that was put in place to overcome this challenge, and the results of the ed-tech project or implementation. While these pieces typically involve the implementation of a specific ed-tech product or solution, they should not be overly promotional in style.
